Facts do not cease to exist…

…because they are ignored.

Here are some thoughts on the ‘War on Terror’.

“Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security, will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.” (Benjamin Franklin)

The fear the drives us to willingly give up our freedoms, causes terrorism to be the victor.

“The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact, non-westerners never do.” (Samuel P. Huntington)

There are long memories in the Middle East about Western domination through the centuries. Conveniently ignoring that fact is foolish.

“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.” (Herman Goering)

Well, theres the US and Australian (and probably British) policies summed up - by a Nazi.

“If you strike us, imprison, or kill us, out of our prisons or graves, we will evoke a spirit that will thwart you, and perhaps, raise a force that will destroy you! We defy you! Do your worst!” (James Connolly)

Welcome to Iraqi resistance. Shock, horror.

“There is no crueler tyranny than that which is perpetuated under the shield of law and in the name of justice.” (Montesquieu)

Guantanamo Bay, anyone?

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it … always.” (Mahatma Gandhi)

What I have to believe.
