We are citizens of the world…

…the tragedy of our times is that we do not know this.
The 5th anniversary of 911, the bombing of the World Trade Centre, has caused the usual orgy of examination and media. What has struck me about all of this, when looking back at things like Jon Stewart’s incredibly moving monologue after the tragedy, is how much this affected us all. For a while, we were united, and we were richer, better, for the experience. People seemed to become more open, more honest, more - real.
But, being people, we soon got over grief. We reverted.
And the US government wasted, squandered the goodwill of the world.
There was possibility for change, for a better world.
It has been thrown away, and worse, corrupted and twisted.
A terrible waste. Another tragedy, one that we don’t have a convenient anniversary of. But one that will resonate for far longer.
