Never think that war…

November 30th, 2006 by timelady

…no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime.
Do you want one event that summarises, if only to me, exactly where the US has gone wrong in Iraq? In the mindset that allows this. The US army, on patrol, comes across some Iraqis stealing wood (frivolously stealing wood, for cooking etc. Can you imagine!). Do the soldiers talk to the civilians reasonably, maybe even with some sense of sympathy?

HELL NO!! Thats not the US way, obviously. Heres what they do : US Tank crushes Iraqi civilian’s car.

No wonder Colin Powell thinks its time the Bush administration came to terms with the obvious fact its a civil war now in Iraq. Via Think Progress : Powell says Iraq Is In A Civil War And Bush Should Stop Denying It

Jimmy Carter says :“Iraq Invasion…One Of The Greatest Blunders That American Presidents Have Ever Made”

And Judge Strikes Down Bush on Terror Groups. From the article : “A federal judge struck down President Bush’s authority to designate groups as terrorists, saying his post-Sept. 11 executive order was unconstitutional and vague, according to a ruling released Tuesday”.

Constant attention by a good nurse…

November 29th, 2006 by timelady

…may be just as important as a major operation by a surgeon.

impactEDnurse is a fantastic Australian website about an ER Nurse in Canberra. Next time you need the ER, spare a thought for these overworked, stressed, amazing indivduals, and go and punch* your local Health Minister. Hard enough so that they need ER. And have to see how hard these people work in drastically underfunded systems.

*DISCLAIMER:
OK, I *WAS* joking about punching your Health Minister. Tempting as it is, best not.

Write to them, phone them, complain bitterly and loudly at every opportunity on behalf of medical staff and patients alike.

As Arlo Guthrie said in the great, classic, immortal (can you tell I love it) song Alice’s Restuarant -

And the only reason I’m singing you this song now is cause you may know somebody in a similar situation, or you may be in a similar situation, and if you’re in a situation like that there’s only one thing you can do and that’s walk into the shrink wherever you are, just walk in say “Shrink, You can get anything you want, at Alice’s restaurant.”.

And walk out.

You know, if one person, just one person does it they may think he’s really sick and they won’t take him.

And if two people, two people do it, in harmony, they may think they’re both faggots and they won’t take either of them.

And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking in singing a bar of Alice’s Restaurant and walking out. They may think it’s an organization.

And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day, I said fifty people a day walking in singing a bar of Alice’s Restaurant and walking out.

And friends, they may thinks it’s a movement.”

Become a movement. Sing at them - that should be annoying enough:)

Do not wait for extraordinary circumstances…

…to do good action; try to use ordinary situations.

This is pretty awful stuff. Not that they refuse the free 50000 dvds of ‘An Inconvenient Truth‘, its the fact that they accept dvds from the fuel, oil, and petroleum industries without question - and  the refusal looks a lot like they are hesitant to offend these groups.  This is the education your kids get.

Death is nothing to us…

November 26th, 2006 by timelady

…since when we are, death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Odds For Your Death

Based on US statistics.

Nowhere here does it say terrorism is a major killer. Funny, so many rights surrendered in the name of Homeland Security for an unnecessary threat.
