Final comfort that is small, but not cold…

April 20th, 2007 by timelady

…the heart is the only broken instrument that works.

I often post about heroism. There are many kinds. Most don’t make the news. Most aren’t, at first glance, obvious acts of herosim. Here is one such case.

The pictorial anguish of a single mother, battling to give her young son a dignified journey through his life - and death from childhood cancer. Hug your kids. Hug someone. Life is precious.

Calloo, callay…

That’s what it takes to be a hero…

April 18th, 2007 by timelady

…a little gem of innocence inside you that makes you want to believe that there still exists a right and wrong, that decency will somehow triumph in the end.

This sums up for me what it is to be a hero. Not sports, not celebrity, but this.

76-year-old lecturer shot to death trying to save his students from the Virginia Tech assailant was a Holocaust survivor who later escaped to Israel from Communist Romania, his son said Tuesday.

Relatives said Liviu Librescu, an internationally respected aeronautics engineer and a lecturer at the school for 20 years, saved the lives of several students by barricading his classroom door before he was gunned down in Monday’s massacre, which coincided with Israel’s Holocaust remembrance day.

Vale Liviu Librescu. You are a true hero.

Music is…

April 12th, 2007 by timelady

…what feelings sound like.

I got tagged, thanks to Bruce, so here is my Rage entry thang. No order particularly, and I had to not put in much of my beloved music. Whats going to annoy me is the ones I have forgotten, and will think about during the day.

Kasey Chambers - Pony
The Whitlams - No Aphrodisiac
The Church - Under The Milky Way
XTC - Dear God
Tatu - 30 Minutes
Suzanne Vega - Tom’s Diner
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Radiohead - Karma Police
Sarah McLachlan - In the Arms of the Angels
Weird Al Yankovich - Smells Like Nirvana
OMD - Joan of Arc (or Enola Gay)
Icehouse - Don’t Believe Anymore
Rolf Harris - Stairway to Heaven
Tori Amos - Cornflake Girl
Vast - Touched
Peter Gabriel & kate Bush - Don’t Give Up
Shakespear’s Sister - Stay
Tears For Fears - Head Over Heels
Thomson Twins - Hold Me Now
Psychedelic Furs - Love My Way
Neil & Tim Finn - Won’t Give In
Pink Floyd - Learning to Fly
Some Reasons:

The easiest film clip choice is the Johnny Cash one. Its so painful, its exposure of his thoughts of his life journey. Trent Raznor was right, Cash now owns that song.

In the Arms of the Angels was what I would sing softly to my youngest child, when he spent two weeks in NICU after birth. The nurses and my friends were our angels.

The Nirvana cover by Weird Al is enjoyed by our whole fmily though Amish Paradise was a close second;) But I can’t hear the original without SEEING Weird Al’s clip.

Karma Police has a great animated clip - great for those late night views;)

Neil And Tim Finn in the clip for this song, look so at home with each other, and like they are enjoying the process so much, that I chose this out of their whole (joint/solo) catalogue for that alone:)

I tag Shaun and Katie.
