The misogyny that shapes every aspect of our civilization is…

May 22nd, 2007 by timelady

…the institutionalized form of male fear and hatred of what they have denied and therefore cannot know, cannot share: that wild country, the being of women.

I’m back. And I see things haven’t changed. The misogyny of the way idiots respond to women on blogs continues, but finally, the rebuttals are starting to overtake….

If a man writes something that is disagreed with, the subject is attacked. If a woman dares to do the same, she is attacked, personally, with all related to her suddenly ‘fair game’. Attacks on her sexuality, her relaionships, her personal, professional, even her parental skills are suddenly grist for the mill. Even her children are suddenly targets. Sexual innuendo through to threats of violence are all standard tactics. Would these people be brave enough to do so to her face, in real life, in a more public arena - say, a debate on television? Of course not.

What courage the internet provides the true coward, the racists, the misogynists. Its become a place to air dirty laundry, to reveal the inner grub. All that gives me hope is the counterpart - posters with integrity and decency. Even those i disagree with. left, right, whatever, are simple ethical values of decency so hard to comprehend?

Though i will note, such vileness does seem to be more concentrated on the side of the right wingers. Coincidence? No, not really. Hypocrisy is also much more sharply focused in conservatives. Human rights are not popular with the right wingers. Nor, sadly, does accountability for such revolting behaviour. It is justified in their twisted logic by the simple act of disagreement with the woman’s opinions, posts, statements.

And even religion is used to justify appalling attitudes towards women. I leave you with this gem : I have found one good man in a thousand, But not one good woman among them. — Ecclesiastes 7:28

    Lovely work.

In responce to Ecclesiastes; if you go looking amongst 1000 men you’ll tend not to find any women, good or otherwise. Oh the drawbacks of bronze age religious sex ed (”boys have a penis, girls have a vagina” needs to brought back to somebody’s curriculum).

Oh… I’ve tagged you for another blogging meme, and I think your link to my internet squadristi entry may be broken :O
