And with some minor variations, outlined below, it has worked a treat! Much cooler and happier baby, and I do not need to put something on my lap now before using him. Given his small size, he was packing too much of a punch for my liking;) Now that he has his memory upgrade (1Gb beasty now, thanks to my early birthday present from the man), he is sweeeeet:)

For example, Hal is a 1.4GHz Centrino single CPU, so using the command cat /proc/cpuinfo, I get model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1400MHz.
I therefore use (according to the howto) : sudo modprobe speedstep-centrino.
Thus for me, the only change in Hardy that I had to do was with this step: Step 9: Configure cpufrequtils to automatically set this governor on boot Edit the file /etc/default/cpufrequtils. Change the line: ENABLE=”false” to ENABLE=”true”
Nope, no such file. Instead, I edited /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils, and changed GOVERNOR=”ondemand” to GOVERNOR=”powersave”
