It is hard struggling with a disability. Staying brave, trying to make the best of your circumstances.

A friend of mine online is really trying hard to find ways to do that. Like all of us, he cannot do it alone, and everyone needs a hand now and then. Military pensions and a family are a bad combination. He served. He gave, and now it is time to give back.

…when I’ve got about two weeks to spare.

Had enormous trouble with DVD playback on Kubuntu, Intrepid Ibex, Alpha 3.

None of the fixes for Hardy worked on Kplayer (KDE video player, Mplayer based) or Kaffeine (KDE video player, Xine based).

I did wonder if it was just being cranky about old school Dr Who - but surely not!

Finally, went back to installing my old standby. VLC Player. And yes, there was much rejoicing, it works.

And the Dr Who did raineth like the gentle rain…*

* if rain is witty, humourous, written by Douglas Adams, and with cheesy special effects. And a maniacal robot parrot.
